Web Accessibility Help
There are actions you can take to adjust your web browser to make your web experience more accessible.
If you are blind or have low vision and have trouble seeing web pages, the US Social Security Administration provides tips for adjusting your computer and browser to improve your online experience.
- Use your computer to read web pages out loud
- Use the keyboard to navigate screens
- Increase text size
- Magnify your screen
- Change background and text colors
- Make your mouse pointer more visible (Windows only)
I find a keyboard or mouse hard to use
If using a keyboard or mouse is difficult, speech recognition software such as Dragon can help you navigate web pages and online services. This type of software lets you move focus around a web page or application screen using voice commands.
I am deaf or hard of hearing
If you are deaf or hard of hearing, several accessibility features are available to help you.
Transcripts
A text transcript provides a written equivalent of audio content, covering both spoken words and non-spoken sounds such as sound effects. Howard Hanna is working to add transcripts to all scripted video and audio content.
Captioning
A caption is a transcript of a video's audio track, synchronized with the video and audio. Captions are usually displayed visually over the video, which helps people who are deaf or hard of hearing, as well as anyone who cannot hear the audio (for example, in a crowded room). Most video content includes captions. Learn how to turn captioning on and off in YouTube.
Volume controls
Your computer, tablet, or mobile device includes volume controls, and each video and audio service has its own additional volume settings. For the best listening experience, adjust both your device's volume and your media player's volume.
